When Elinor Anderson would find Temp, he would be squatted down and playing tug of war with an energetic Manectric. Not one of his Gym Pokemon- just a pet. But, at her introduction he would stand back up and gave a huge wave from across the pool. His smile was huge when he greeted her.

"Hey, dude! Nice to meet you!" He shot a wink to Eele, too; sadly, Temp was not intimidated. Was the nature of someone who kissed a criminal nightly. "I'm Norman Rararie, the leader! Call me Temp, though!"

Temp tilted his head, examining the pokemon. An electric type, right? Oh, that would be trouble for most of his pokemon. He did have a few tricks up his sleeve, though. In a fair way. Most people assumed he was strictly a water type Gym- but Temp just used pokemon that lived in the ocean.

A pokeball was taked from his pocket and tossed out. There was a large splash of water as a Tentacruel was thrown in. She stared down the Trainer and pokemon with unimpressed eyes.

"This is Ruby! Ruby, say 'hi'!" The Tentacruel grugled while raising a tentacle to wave. "Anyway..." He cleared his throat. "I accept your Gym Challenge! This battle will follow all League protocals! Challenger may have the first move!"

"You know what to do, Ruby!" Temp called out to his own Pokemon. Ruby gurgled before surging forward- straight towards the Zap Cannon. The attack his her head on. But it almost seemed to have an extra glow to it. A thin, clear barrier surrounded both Ruby and Eele- until it faded away.

The attack still did a hell of a number on Ruby, clearly, but she just sighed and dipped under the water, waiting on the next move.

Temp grinned from his side of the stage.

The Thunderbolt struck the water. It was clear to see that it effected Ruby at least a bit; but it wasn't the bombastic damage that was usual for a Water type taking an Electric move. Ruby just winced at best before easily shaking the attack off. Those electric type moves wouldn't do as much damage as they might have before.

"Nifty trick, eh?" But Temp just winked and put a finger to his lip; he wasn't about to reveal his secrets just yet.

Then Ruby chose to strike. She rose from the water quickly, like a creature from a horror movie. Black water rippled off her from the poison sacs on her body. A massive splash of water aimed at the Eelektross- a Sludge Wave meant to drown out the other.

Ruby slunk forward, tentacles at the ready. This pokemon was in her domain now and she was reluctant to let her go...

Yet, she could see the panic in the way the Eelektross struggled, poured out electricity in the water. It stung, it's not like she was immune to the electric attacks, they just weren't hurting her as badly.

There was the urge to grab the other pokemon and pull her back down but the kinder side of Ruby won out. Or, maybe it was just her Trainer's influence. Sucking a breath, she fired out a Bubblebeam. This had two points: one was for an attack, the other was to help the pokemon make it back to the surface.

This wouldn't be fun if the other was freaked out.

"Oh, hey!" Temp waved and yelled for Elinor Anderson, to get her attention. He had been watching what was happening carefully. "If you ever get worried about your pokemon, I have Lifeguard!" He pointed to the edge of the pool, where a Dewgong was sunning herself. "You can pause the match at any time to have her 'rescue' your pokemon! It doesn't count against you!"

Rocks crashed down on Ruby. One of the hard parts about being in a confined space like a pool, even if it was large, was that AOE attacks were much harder to dodge. That plus her size, she was a hefty girl even for a Tentacruel, and she was quickly bogged down by the rocks.

One of them ended up landing heavy on the bottom, pinning three of her tentacles under it. She tugged to try and get free to no avail. She grumbled under the water and gave a few soft pants. This was wearing her down.

Temp squinted down into the water and chewed on his lip. Ruby would push herself, and possibly hurt herself, if he wasn't careful. Elinor Anderson's pokemon also looked pretty tired.... Yeah, it would be time to call this match very soon. Didn't want either of their pokemon getting seriously hurt!

Ruby wasn't giving up just yet, though- the two red globes on her head started to flash and sparkle with a Dazzling Gleam. She couldn't aim as well from her pinned down spot and just hoped the attack would work.

Ruby tugged and pulled at her tentacles under the water. Temp shook his head and pulled out his own pokeball, returning her. A metal whistle, which had been around his neck, was pulled up. A hard blow- but it barely made a little 'fwip!' before he watched Elinor Anderson's struggle with the Eelektross.

He dropped the whistle and chuckled, making his way around the edge of the pool and towards the girl. A few pokemon had already slipped into the pool from where they had been waiting or hiding, starting the process of cleaning and repairs so they could be ready for the next match.

"You did well!" Temp grinned at her when he close enough, pulling a tablet in a waterproof case off his hip and turning it on. he flipped through a couple things to make sure he was remembering correctly... "Ah, you don't have any badges yet, do you?" OOC, Yams just guessed this from the sidebar and hopes this doesn't go against anything else. Either way, since Elinor didn't have any badges, his judgment wouldn't be as harsh as someone with a handful of them. That didn't mean she wouldn't go out of here without learning, though.

"You and your pokemon were very determined! The two of you seemed very in-tune with each other." His smile was wide but them softened. It didn't leave, just became a bit more serious. "Have you ever went against the move 'Reflect Type' before? It changes the pokemon's type to the type of the pokemon it's fighting! After Ruby used it, your electric moves weren't very effective." Not that Temp blamed her, as it wasn't a very commonly used move. But, it should be expected for a Gym Leader, or even other trainers, to have counters to cover their pokemon's weaknesses. This was just for learning, though! He hoped he didn't come off condescending. "Sometimes Trainers will come in here and try to push their pokemon past their limits- but I saw at the end how you tried to call the match before your Eelektross fainted! That is a surprisingly uncommon trait for Trainers to have."

Another grin and Temp reached into his pocket, a shell shaped badge produced for the other to take.

"Before Eele fainted, I was actually calling back Ruby for a similar reason- that last Rock Slide pinned her down there, so she couldn't really fight without hurting herself. I can see potential in you! So, I'd like to give you the Shell Badge, if you'll accept it!"
